Mamat's ramadhan attempt

Ini Apam, sejenis makanan
Ini bola getah, sejenis permainan
Ini budak ganas, yang melahap dengan ganasnya bola getah di atas, instead of kuih apam tuh...

a reply to an anonymous comment

I received a comment from an anonymous for one of my old post (titled "Under My..")

That person , he or she, was saying that being a teacher is not as easy as I said it was. No job in this world is easy, he said. That is for sure, I agree with that.

But please raised your hand, for those who think being a teacher is much EASIER (or should I say luxurious) than being a doctor...

He said, sometimes he had to complete his work til 5pm, although he was supposed to finish work at 2.30pm. SO??

By right, doctors should have the same working time as other profession i.e 7am - 5pm.
During my surgical days in Ireland, I had to be at the hospital by 6.30am before our ward round, and finishes by 7pm. During pre-op days, I sometimes finishes by 10-11pm. Meaning at those times, I worked16-17 hours.
During my medical days, I had to do oncall three days in a row. Meaning I worked 56 hours straight none stop.
During my O&G days, I had to do oncall every other day. Meaning you worked 36 hours straight, then you rest for the next 10 hours, then you worked for another 36 hours.
During my days in Paeds, on oncall days, I had to wake up as early as 4.50am to make sure I'll arrive at the hospital by 5.15am to do the bloods. Add up all the hours, I basically worked for 37-38 hours straight.

.........So mister/lady (who rudely call me 'dude'.. what kinda teacher are you?), you want to compare your working hours with mine?

Evidence is not that enough huh?

Teachers get school holiday, public holiday and weekends off.
Doctors get 10 days leave in 4 months, in which that 10 days include our public holidays and emergency leave.

You teachers dont have to apply for public holidays. We doctors HAVE to apply for public holidays and it's deducted from our precious 10 days leave.

And we doctors have to work on weekends. The only time when teachers have to work on weekend is when there are school activities and sekolah ganti...so you teachers can enjoy longer public holidays.

Interestingly, during darurat like jerebu and H1N1 crisis, schools get closed, and teachers get free off day. At the same time during those darurat, cuti doctor DIBEKUKAN.

I'm not saying, being a teacher is DAMN EASY. Or as I said in my post "loceng bunyi, dah terus boleh balik". My mum's a form 6 teacher in a town school, so she has more workload compare to the other teachers. But, she can still bring her job home, be home by 3pm (just because the Pengetua asked them to stay longer), cooked and cleaned, and have the afternoon nap. My sister is a pre-school teacher in a district primary school. Dont ask me how much more luxurious her life is...

Do you think, doctors can bring their work home? Can we bring our patients home, diagnose and treat them at our home? What about those times when we're too busy, we forgot to eat our lunch, and sometime even to tired to eat dinner because sleep is much, much needed? And if we can get a little nap during our oncall nights, that is a BIG blessing...

So dude, before you can easily comment on others blog, make sure you get the whole picture how my life is much more different than yours. I know and understand a teacher's life. My parents are teachers. I was born to, live, eat and sit with a teacher for nearly 26 years.

So dude, how long have you been a teacher???

flu scare

Another lady succumbed to her death yesterday.

A severe pneumoniae due to H1N1 influenza.

The flu scare hasnt been that nice on the ED staff. Obviously, we're understaff. And its a joke when those SN/JM in nursery were whining about how THEY are understaff..

Statistically, the whole of Kuching will attend to nearly 700 cases of fever/cough/sore throat per day. Thankfully, the polyclinics will see up till 5pm(and their records would be up to 400 patients/day). After 5pm, patients will be diverted to us, the mild cases go to the fever clinic (a temporary clinic set up at the gynae OPD), and those categorised as mod-severe will be re-routed to ED. So, yesterday, the fever clinic staff saw about 100+ patients, and we saw the rest, as the fever clinic closed at midnight.

So, its no wonder if I havent got better cause everyday after I saw these patients, I'll get sick all over again.

Diagnosing URTI itself is kacang, but I spent most of my 'consultation' time reassuring the patients or their parents. After all, the hardest thing to convince the patients is that the H1N1 flu is just like any other flu is in a person's life...except it KILLS...

Of course after a better plan to categorise patients, we dont see those stupid cases where patient came to ED just because someone asked him/her too i.e asymptomatic patient who was simply a student of a college with suspected cases.. And of course, patient spent less time waiting outside ED to see us. And we dont have to argue with those rude patients who would simply barged in and demanded to see us earlier because he cant wait and follow his turn like other patients..

Tough. And boss said this will go on for at least another 3 months. And the hot season is coming to town, and Ramadhan's approaching as well. Hmmm...

Last advice, take care of yourself people. The best cure for all this is self quarantine. And drink plenty of water... ciao.

worse week ever

The worst week ever.

Felt like digging a hole and bury myself in it.

I had a bad bout of fever this week. Terrible chills and bad cough spasms. Only few days ago, my temp went up to 39 degree. And I literally knocked out on Thursday, after my night duty. The last 2 days, I've been coughing up blood, and my chest is severely tender from all the coughing. I lost 2 kilos, I cant eat because I felt nauseous and I vomited most of what I ate. And still I had to go to work. And I really hate it if patients (or their parents) came to ED complaining of simple fever and we're too slow to attend to them... because I felt mush worse and I still had to go to work! Stupid people! Just go to the polyclinic la!!!! Kenapa nak buang masa kat ED???

The MOs here sucks. They're malignant, backstabber (even with each other) and racist. Sikit2 nak marah. Even when its not my fault, aku jugak yang kena. Seriyesly, benci betol!! So what if people have been saying ED shift work is 'heaven'?? I just hate it.. I prefer waking up early, and go to work at the same time as others and balik pukul 5..

I hate the MOs.. I hate the MOs..... I hate the MOs....

And finally, having a colleague who persistently saying he has a crush on me, while knowing that I have a boyfriend is another bad thing this week. I already felt down from the flu and the workload and the MO thingy, I dont need another to make me completely down..
