Being Sarawakian is one thing. It's totally different from being a 'lepeh'. No offense, but being Bornean is such a special thing..for me it is. Being both Melanau Mukah, and Foochow Sibu..well, both are interesting. The combination is er...just nice :p
I went back with my mum and dudin to Sibu the other day. Since grandpa passed away this February, mum made a great effort of visiting grandma...I guess it's one way of washing away her regret for being unable to say any last words to mendiang Wong...(well, let bygone be bygone..)

Anyway, we arrived in Sibu about 5pm. Aunty Rebecca picked us at the airport. Then we went to the dockyard, to pick up my sis, who's coming from Kapit by boat...Without any delay, we went straight back home to grandma's house at Jln Pedada...
Later that night, we went out for dinner. It's a routine that whenever our family came visit, aunty will bring us out for dinner..cant have dinner at home anyway...hehe...religion thingy...
Thanks to aunty, we had nasi lemak for dinner (eheheheh)..and satay...and yeah, aunty became so Melayu, she also had teh tarik...ahaha...
Next stop wa
s the pasar malam...I love this place so, so much!!! Because, one of the Malay stall sells PAU!!! DELICIOUS PAU!!! Yeah, everytime our family went back to Sibu, me and my dad would search for this stall...nyehehe...Sibu is very famous for its' pau. But tonight, I'm quite dissapointed..No red bean pau..just some vege pau...erkhwekkkk...
Next day, we went out again. We went to the shopping mall..bought some pirated CDs an
d VCDs...ehehe... We also went to the new park at the centre of the town. It had the phoenix as its' town symbol. Surrounding the phoenix were the 12 Chinese year animals. As usual, pig is the hideous one..ahaha...
Then we went to pasar kering. Sis bought some mi sua...Mum bought some udang kering kelas AAA (hahah) for me...And then, both mum and aunty went on spying at my going to be cousin in law...nyehehe...That night, we went to have mi kampua (Mi kampua is a Foochow noodle dish. In Kuching, it's known as mi kolok)...it was...just OK..not as good as I expected it to be..And sucks because they put perut lembu...bwekk...anyway, the mee itself was nice...Me and dudin went to the playground after having our dinner..(dudin had french fries for dinner..ahahaha)...
Before going back to the house, we tried ( or I tried) my luck at the pasar malam again, if there's any chance for the red bean pau..Sadly, no luck this time again. I just bought some pau kelapa..that's all...Hehe, some for dad as well...

Finally, the day came for us to fly back to Kuching. And sis went back to Kapit as well. Before sending us to the airport, mum bought lots of Foochow bread, or famously known as 'kompia' for me...RM6..got about 36..nyehehe..Kompia (Guang Bing), was invented by the hero Ji Guang as dry food for his soldiers to carry along during Anti-Japanese occupation war in China. It tastes like French Bread but it has sesame seeds on top. There's another type of kompia, it is sweet tasting, with no sesame seeds on top. I like that one better...:P

Another, famous food..err..fruit which can only be found in Sibu is buah dabai..Dabai is a native fruit of Sarawak harvested by local natives and sold it in the native market. The external colour of dabai is black while the fresh of the fruit is yellow in colour. The seed in the centre is yellow and diamond in shape as shown in the picture on the left. You can only eat the seed if you can crack open the seed. What mum usually did was to boil the fruit, and eat them with salt. Sometimes, me and my family eat them with rice, to replace vege dish.
Yeah, journey ends here..This year, didnt went back to Mukah..so no umai and kelupis for me this year.. :(
Satisfying the Wong in me.
